Rampage Update – The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Sweaters

Hello Blues Rants readers! I would first like to address my extended silence. I work at a very small wholesaler here in Texas. This means the holiday season is extremely grueling. Working six days a week and raising a two-year-old left me little time to write quality articles. I did not want to just push out crap and risk the integrity of this great fansite. That said, let’s dive back in full force!

The Good

Nathan Walker, Derrick Pouliot, Klim Kostin, and Austin Poganski, all got their cup of coffee with the big club. Jordan Kyrou and Niko Mikkola are still up in St. Louis but I doubt Mikkola suits up for the Blues in this stint. All guys that I have been impressed by and expected to get their sniffs at the NHL this year. Ville Husso is progressing nicely and looks good to assume the backup role next season. Through his first 20 games this season, Husso boasts a .910 SV% and 2.50 GAA with two shutouts tacked on. All of this and a record-setting shootout performance on Friday that the Rampage ended up dropping after 15 rounds.

The Bad (but not that bad)

San Antonio has been struggling as of late, posting only three wins in their last ten games. After this weekend, their losing streak sits at four. That said, the Rampage still sits at a fully average .500 win percentage. Their 28 points are good for fourth place in the Central Division and seventh in the Western Conference. The struggles as of late are presumably due to key players missing from the lineup to be with St. Louis.

Back up goaltender, Adam Wilcox has not impressed. Signed as a free agent this off-season, he has appeared in 8 games. In that span, Wilcox is 2-3-3 with a 2.87 GAA and a .888 SV%. With those numbers, I would rather see what prospect Evan Fitzpatrick brought to the table. But I assume the organization doesn’t want to pressure Husso and get Fitzpatrick the reps in Tulsa.

The Ugly Sweaters

It’s ugly sweater season and the Rampage didn’t disappoint this year! Featuring an elf-costume motif and a Santa Hat wearing T-Bone crest! Check em out! Matched with some yellow legwear, the team looked fresh for the holidays but not on the scoreboard. The Rampage travel to Chicago for a tangle with former Blues affiliate Wolves on Tuesday.
