Hey boys… it’s me again.
How was your summer? Do you have an exciting “what I did on my summer vacation” essay to share with the class? I bet you do. I hope you at least had a chance to take a nap or two.
So you remember that night back in June when you all went to bed knowing that in 24 hours, one way or the other, history would be made? And then that next 24 hours lasted for at least a couple of weeks?
Well, tonight is a bit like that night.
Tomorrow night history will be made again. You will take the ice for your first regulation game as winners. Champions. Holder of the rings. Defender of the Cup.
Everyone is watching.
Everyone has an opinion.
And not all of them are positive.
There are people out there who are gonna talk way more trash than they did before. There are going to be more people spewing negativity and waiting for you to fail.
You see, winning is hard. Like really, really hard. But you know what’s harder? Being a winner. It comes with a whole other level of pressure.
So I’m going to give you a touch of advice that I bet even Grandma Parayko would agree with.
Go back to the beginning.
The bliss from reaching your ultimate goal is often followed by a mindset that is super clinically and technically called “now what?”
Just because your dream came true doesn’t mean you can’t have another one.
So go back to the beginning.
Remember why you first picked up that stick and laced up those skates. Remember the basics. Remember what it means to be one team. Remember the lessons learned from each triumphant win and every unfortunate loss. Remember what it was like to have a dream. Remember what it feels like to achieve that dream.
And do it all again.
Don’t worry about the haters. Let us take care of them. We’ve got your back. You take care of the rest.
Here we go again. Let’s. Go. Blues.
